December 4th marked the first ever Permaculture Symposium at UMaine. The event brought together an interdisciplinary from across Maine and New England to present researched techniques for ecological design. Presenter came from as far as the University of Vermont, but also included regional resources such as the New Forest Institute in Brooks and DC Green Maine LLC. UMaine presenters included members of the School of Engineering, the Intermedia MFA program, and the Peace Studies Program. Highlights included our own Paul van Steenberghe who presented new solar eclectric technologies and applications, as well as Stuart Flannagan and Brett Gorman’s “eco-machine” workshop. Stuart and Brett are students of world reknown ecological designer John Todd. The event was co-sponsored by the Permaculture Club and the local non-profit organization ESTIA.
